Transformation Challenges

In recent years, Yingda Asset has seen its business scale surge from 1.8 billion to 100 billion, a 54-fold increase that ranks first in the industry. This rapid expansion necessitated the swift launch of numerous business products and modules, requiring IT systems capable of fast provisioning, procurement, and deployment. However, the company's legacy architecture lacked scalability, and its aging IBM minicomputers posed significant operational risks.

Selection Key Priorities

Aligning with its growth trajectory and business requirements, Yingda Asset identified Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) as the ideal architecture for its transformation. HCI meets the demands for rapid service delivery and agile scalability while streamlining O&M to optimize lean IT resources. Following a comprehensive multi-vendor evaluation, Yingda Asset selected SmartX ECP for its ability to unify production and DR requirements within a single framework, offering superior technical support and cost-efficiency.

"Dual-Center" Deployment Strategy

Yingda Asset deployed two SmartX ECP clusters integrated with third-party CDP software Zerto to establish a data center-level DR site. This architecture supports a full spectrum of workloads, from general operations to mission-critical production, achieving second-level RPO and minute-level failover.

During migration, Yingda Asset utilized P2V and V2V methodologies to transition Oracle databases and core applications from legacy minicomputers to the HCI platform. This modernization replaced aging hardware, while HCI redundancy features—such as data replication and rack awareness—eliminated single points of failure within the cluster hardware.

"Since adopting the hyper-converged architecture, we have migrated all workloads from minicomputers to the new platform. Currently, all our business systems—including core database applications and disaster recovery operations—run entirely on HCI. In terms of performance and efficiency, HCI is fully comparable to, and in some cases even outperforms, our previous minicomputer systems."

Empowering Business Efficiency

The hyper-converged architecture provides robust support for the rapid launch of various business services at Yingda Asset. During a recent settlement system deployment, the IT department completed the entire process—from environment setup and provisioning to final launch—in just 15 days, delivering a seamless experience for business units. Thanks to the agility and convenience of HCI, the IT team can now manage both infrastructure development and O&M with ease, even with lean staffing.
