Transformation Background

In recent years, Bank of Lanzhou has been actively pursuing digital transformation, with the Information Technology Department responsible for supporting business units and enabling technology-driven capabilities. During this process, the underlying infrastructure, network architecture, system architecture, and application architecture all need to adapt to new changes and evolving business models.

Key Factors in Evaluating the Technology Strategy

Given their size, regional commercial banks can’t simply mirror the technology roadmaps of large state-owned institutions. During its evaluation, Bank of Lanzhou reviewed three options—proprietary cloud, private cloud, and hyperconverged infrastructure—looking closely at security, stability, ease of maintenance, and the ability to scale quickly.

The bank found that proprietary and private cloud architectures were too heavy and complex for its business environment and long-term IT plans. Hyperconvergence, on the other hand, supports smaller, flexible deployments, delivers strong stability, and offers a modern architectural approach that aligns far better with how regional commercial banks operate.

Selecting SmartX After Extensive Product Evaluation

During its evaluation of hyperconverged solutions, the bank tested offerings from several leading domestic vendors through a comprehensive, long-term process. After comparing the results, the bank identified SmartX as a strong fit—citing its modern architecture, the level of reliability required for banking workloads, responsive services, and an intuitive interface that makes daily operations straightforward for IT staff.

"Across the three-plus cloud platforms we’ve used, SmartX has had the fewest issues. After conducting a comparison, I find SmartX to be the most stable. Their service is exceptional—responses are timely, and no issues remain unresolved."
Li Biao, General Manager, Information Technology Department

Continuing the Shift Toward Domestic Technology Adoption

Bank of Lanzhou is actively aligning with national initiatives to increase the use of domestic IT products. The bank will continue working with SmartX to introduce architectures that can fully replace equivalent foreign solutions in terms of performance, enabling a broader transformation across both its system architecture and business operations.
