SmartX announced that the Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver of its distributed storage platform SMTX ZBS has been added on Kubernetes CSI production drivers list so as to integrate block storage system with Kubernetes containerized environment. Enterprise users can not only leverage SMTX ZBS to build private cloud and hyper-converged infrastructure system, but also introduce persistent storage into stateful applications on Kubernetes.


Container and container orchestration have become primary focuses for developers and IT Op teams and quickly gained ground as a fast, efficient and scalable way for multiple applications. According to a recent Gartner survey, as of 2022, 63% of the CIOs admit that they are testing and evaluating containers, while 27% have already deployed containers into production.


Persistent storage was not originally part of the container picture, as organizations used to just run stateless workloads on containers. With the increasing adoption of containers, as well as the strong management capability from Kubernetes, more and more stateful applications including Mongo DB, MySQL, PostgreSQL started to run on containers, which requires persistent storage to meet with the demand of data storage, analytics and sharing.

Now with SMTX ZBS CSI driver being included in Kubernetes’ set of drivers, persistent storage has been introduced into Kubernetes to effectively support a series of stateful database workloads.
